Catch map - Horse mackerel
Horse mackerel is a highly sought-after food fish, especially in Asia. It is also called jack mackerel because it has 70–80 jagged scales along its lateral line. Horse mackerel can live up to 40 years.
Usage: Previously, most of the catches went to meal and oil, but Western horse mackerel is a healthy and tasty food fish, so in recent years, the bulk has been exported to Asian countries like Japan.
Fishing gear: Seine net, common gear, and trawl.
Nutritional content: A good source of protein, often containing between 18 and 25 grams of protein. It also contains several important nutrients, including omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals.
